As technology transforms every aspect of modern life, criminal defense will not remain insulated from AI innovation. This workshop will provide an in-depth examination of how artificial intelligence is reshaping the practice of advocacy, both in the courtroom and beyond. This program will address the practical application of AI tools to core defense functions such as legal research, motion practice, evidence review, and jury selection. Participants will explore how AI can augment — rather than replace — traditional advocacy skills, allowing for greater efficiency, strategic insight, and persuasive power. Emphasis will be placed on ethical considerations, technological competence under professional responsibility rules, and maintaining the primacy of human judgment in an increasingly digital practice environment.

Attendees will leave with a practical framework for integrating AI into their daily practice in a manner that strengthens, rather than supplants, the essential craft of criminal defense.
